Lately, I’ve been obsessed with travelling. Sure, I’ll go to London for a week this May, but that is not enough to satisfy my wanderlust. I need another long-term journey. Who knows what the future brings, but in the meantime I can’t stop exploring various travel blogs, vlogs, and homepages. While doing so, I’ve stumbled upon the Wanderlust Tag. Naturally, I had to do it as well.
1.Your most treasured passport stamp?
Growing up in Europe has its advantages, you can visit countless countries and cultures without needing a visa. So there are only two stamps in my, now expired, passport. New Zealand and USA. The USA stamp was during my three hour stop-over on my flight back to Germany (Stupid LA!) so since I’ve only seen LAX, trying to get through security, the USA stamp means nothing to me. The NZ stamp however… is very dear to me and I’ll only throw this expired passport away when I know that I’ll be able to re-visit NZ again. Yeah, I do have a hoarding problem.
2.Can you recite your passport # from memory if asked?
No, again, as a EU citizen travelling within the EU, there are many occasions where you don’t even have to show your ID let alone passport whilst travelling.
3.Preferred method of travel: planes, trains, bus or automobiles?
Planes and bus. Due to my disability, renting a car is not really an option because I’m not allowed to drive just any car (a few things need to be altered). Train travel can be ok, but I’m not too fond of it (although I’ll travel by train from Frankfurt to London via Eurostar next month). I love to fly. Even though it can be stressful, just exploring the airport, watching all the people and wondering where they’re going, sparks my imagination and excites me.
3.Top 3 travel items?
– My sun blocker, preferably with the highest sun protection factor (yeah I’m a vampire).
– A travel notebook/diary
– My good ol’ 7 year old Sony Cybershot
5.Hostel or hotel?
Hostels when I need to save money. Hotels when I have the finances to treat myself
6.Are you a repeat visitor or do you explore new places?
Bit of both. I think there are two types of people. Those that feel the irresistible urge to travel and those that don’t. I belong to the former category so my travel wish list only grows. However, there are many places that you can re-visit repeatedly and still find new things to explore.
7.Do you read up on your destination (culture, history, safety) or do you wing it?
I try to do some research in order to know a little about the destination, but I try to explore as much as possible by foot, not knowing where I’m going.
8.Favorite travel website?
There are several websites and blogs I’ve recently started to follow that fuel my wanderlust:
9.Where would you recommend a friend to visit? Name city & why.
Rotorua. It’s such a lovely little town, but there is so much to explore. Also the smell is…. Ugh…. Unique (those that’ve been to Rotorua know what I mean).
10. You’re leaving tomorrow, money is no option, where are you going?
It’ll be a two year long around-the-world trip, trying to explore all continents and the seven seas.
I tag everyone who wants to do it!
