What a busy year so far. It’s only end of February, yet it feels like an eternity since the year started. After promising grand new ideas for my blog in 2016, university obligations caught up with me and I had to put the blog on hold for a while. It was, however, worth it because I’ve aced two exams (whohoo!). Right now, I’ve got only one research paper left before I’ll register my Master thesis end of March! Call me a nerd, but I’m really looking forward to write my thesis. Of course, I really like my thesis topic. However, the actual reasons why I’m so excited is that I’ll be finally done with university and because I’ll be travelling afterwards.
Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed university a lot. I was not only fortunate enough to study a subject that I really love, but one that I’m good at as well. I’ve made many friends, had many laughs, and changed a lot during my time at univ. Still, everything has to come to an end, even the good times.
Travel Plans for 2016 & 2017
Before I’ll have to figure out what to do with my life after univ. I’ll travel around for at least 6 months. Earlier this week, I’ve finally booked my flight to New Zealand! The journey will begin on October 20th and I’ll stay in New Zealand with the work & travel visa! However, the first three weeks I’ll join my friend M and her sister in a brief round trip.
I’ve yet to apply for that visa, but I fulfil all requirements so everything should go according to plan *knocks on wood*. I’ve had up to three jobs simultaneously and have been saving every cent so my savings should last me for up to 6 months, depending on how frugal I decide to live. So far, my plans include a trip to Samoa. I’d love to do some island hopping in the South Pacific, but the money will determine if’ll work out. Similarly, my budget will also determine when in 2017 I’ll go back to a normal life with a 9-5 job.
In other words, I’m busy planning my trip to New Zealand and while I’m enjoying every second of, there is a lot to keep in mind and to do before the flight departs. Before my great adventure down under begins, I’ll shortly travel to London in September to celebrate my 30th birthday (whohoo!). Before you ask, no I’m not afraid to hit the big 30. The truth is, I’m looking forward to it! There are only great things that’ll happen afterwards and even the birthday itself will be great! I’ve booked me a theatre ticket starring Kenneth Branagh, one of my all-time favourite actors, and I’ll pamper myself throughout the entire day. So, yay!
So, in an attempt to stay organized, I’ve made an action plan for my travel plans and here are a few things I’ll have to do in the upcoming weeks:
- Apply for a new passport
- Apply for the work & travel visa
- Book a flight to London
- Book an accommodation in London
- Get a travel insurance
There are so many more things I need to do, organize or purchase, but these are top 5 priorities.
